A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of That

Let me tell you how wonderful my husband is! Knowing I was in a gloomy mood yesterday, he stopped by a flower shop on the way home and brought me this.

Isn't that the cutest little flower you've ever seen.
A single rose in a little red pot.
I told him it reminded me of Little Shop of Horrors

"feed me Seymour."

I absolutely love it!

Yesterday was kind of a bummer day. I was so sad to see my brother leave, but I know he'll be able to come visit again sometime this year. I guess I just enjoy having visitors and spending time with family. Of course after about a week or two I'm ready for them to leave ;) (Totally kidding, but really.) When they leave it makes me miss Oklahoma that much more.

But, at the end of the day, I am just so lucky and blessed to have such an amazing, caring, and thoughtful husband. (Among many other adjectives I could fill this entire post with.) He's been so great lately, I've gotten flowers twice in the last month and he hasn't done this since we first started dating! I must be doing something right, I have been cooking a lot more lately and making some awesome dinners. Maybe that's it ;)

As you probably know from reading my blog, Jon and I LOVE movies. And since we don't have satellite TV (personal choice) we watch A LOT of movies. Yesterday I popped over to the movie rental place and grabbed a couple new releases. First, Burn After Reading which we've already seen, but an excellent choice I must say. Second, Lakeview Terrace.

Awesome flick guys, action packed and as the back of the DVD so perfectly states "a tense and exciting thriller." You should definitely check it out. I think Samuel L. is such a great actor. I kept grabbing onto Jon's leg and asking him what was going to happen! YA I'm that person who asks really annoying questions even though he's never seen the movie either. Or I scream out what I think is going to happen. (I'm usually right!)
Rent it!

Question/advise

Hubby is having problems sleeping at night. He wakes up smack dab in the middle of the night wide awake and can't go back to sleep. He just wakes up and stares at the ceiling for hours, with nothing serious on his mind. I asked him if he is worrying about something or if anything is bothering him and he says he's completely fine, that everything is great, he just doesn't understand why he wakes up like this. Last night he did it again. He has no idea why this is happening and last night he had nothing on his mind, other than the fact that he couldn't sleep.

Well this in turn keeps me awake and last night we just ended up watching a movie at 3:00 a.m.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice to help him sleep. Are there herbal vitamins or something to that effect that he can take. He's not to keen on taking any serious sleeping meds. He gets so frustrated because he is so tired during the day after not being able to sleep at night. Today we are both dragging.
Thanks to any advice

Ooh also, I was reading my Domino magazine the other day and saw a cute idea for old wine bottles. Since Jon and I drink wine on a regular basis (almost every night) we have a numerous wine bottles around. I grabbed three of my favorite that are green glass and turned them into these.

I soaked the wine labels off with warm sudsy water.

I thought they brought some fun color to my kitchen and I love the green. The squatty bottle in front is a wine bottle too, isn't that crazy. It actually looks like a vase and I think that is why Jon and I bought it. We often do that with wine. If we find a bottle we really like, we snag in and hope the wine is worth drinking.

Well I'm off. Lots to do today. I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday! TGIF. I am so happy it is Friday ;)

Don't forget to enter my giveaways. Only two more days! Saturday is the last day to enter!

Love the wine bottle idea! I have the same problem with sleeping. My dr said it was d/t stress. That or taking to many naps. so I no longer take naps but still have my nights where I can't sleep.

What a perfect little rose ... that is so adorable! I've never seen a single rose in a little pot like that but I'm LOVING it. Isn't it so nice to have a wonderful husband like that?? I'm very happy he brightened your bummer day!

Thanks for the movie suggestions, my husband and I don't have satellite TV either, so we rely on movies, also and we're always lookin' for good ones.

And finally, using wine bottles as vases is such a cute and great idea! : )

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!! : )

I am so the same way - asking those questions even though my hubs hasn't seen the movie either, ha! And if I get scared I close my eyes and make him narrate what is going on.

I have been wanting to see that movie, maybe I will rent it this weekend!
And I know this isn't what you were showing: But I am LOVING that picture above the wine bottles. I saw those around Christmas time and really wanted to get one with our last name spelled out. LOVE IT!

Sounds like your'e husbands a real sweety. My older sister's husband started doing the same things when he really wanted them to get pregnant with thier second baby. Hmmm.....

About the sleep stuff, (yay, pharmacology class is paying off!) I know Melatonin is a natural hormone that your body makes to initiate sleep. It's available without a prescription, and it has minimal adverse effects. It also has some drug interactions, so it would probably be best to check with the doc first.

And I really like the bottles too, especially the short round one in front

you seem to have such a nice husband... always bringing you little gifts :)

As for sleep aids - there are a bunch of homeopathic remedies out there which i've tried because i wasn't sleeping much/at all the first month and a half chris was gone. The only problem with those was that they would put me right to sleep but i would not stay asleep...

Hope that helps a little

What a sweet husband!!! Has he tried list making? Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night like that, and if I pull out some paper and make lists, I can realize what I am worrying about, relax because it is written down and I can deal with it tomorrow, and then go back to sleep.

Hope you both get some sleep here soon!

The flower made me think of the same thing. I've watched the movie too many times before. The wine bottle idea was pretty cool. Good stuff.

How sweet of your husband - that little rose is the cutest thing! That would brighten my day in a second!

I love your wine bottle idea. We rarely drink wine, but if we did I would definitely copy your idea! I also love that picture of your last name...we got one of those for Christmas two years ago, and I think they are so cool.

So sorry you guys are having trouble sleeping. That really is the worst! I'm sorry I don't have any good advice, but I really hope things get better!

Love the little shop of horrors flower
I am also that person that asks questions in movies
I take Tylenol simply sleep about 4 nights a week... and love it. But bath & body works also makes this sleep aroma therapry stuff that helps.
Must do that with my wine bottles!

What a thoughtful husband to bring you such a pretty rose for no reason at all.And what a good wife you are getting up in the middle of the night and watching a movie with him when he can't sleep. I hate to say this, cuz I like my wine too, but he might try skipping the wine for a few nights and replacing it with warm milk. The calcium in milk is suppose to help you sleep. It's miserable not to be able to sleep. You guys are so cute!

You rose is so sweet! I love the wine bottle idea as well. Yours are cuter than mine.. maybe I'll have to go out and drink some more wine :)

I love the flower! Jon is a sweetheart and a great husband.

My mom has been telling me that she's had trouble sleeping lately. She said one night she really did drink some warm milk (GAG!!) and it helped.

If I ever wake up it's because something or someone is on my mind, but it doesn't usually take me long to go back to sleep. I feel for those who have this problem. I've heard that wine makes you sleepy, but can be stimulating later....??? but, that's not something that is new to the routine so I wouldn't think that would be associated. Hummmm...I'll give it some more thought.

I know you're sad to see your brother go. When do you get to come back to OK for a visit?

Have a lovely weekend.
Tomorrow night is my Kenny G concert. ;)

Kris & I are going. I'm sure I'll be blogging aout it.

Love,
Val
P.S. Thanks again for the kind comment on my blog post this morning.

Love those vases! I'm thinking that even I could do something like that! (I'm not crafty at all)

Melatonin is an all natural sleep aid. My doctor recommended it to me but unfortunately, it didn't help me too much but it does other people. He'll need to take it for 5-7 days for it to be effective (from what I'm told).

I ♥ movies. Hubby does not. That part sucks for me. I'm going to check out your suggestions. I am a Netflixer!! =)

"Eat me, Seymour!" --Do you remember that? Haha I have been waking up randomly in the middle of the night too and having vivid dreams. Do you watch movies in bed? Jon might have trained his brain to think when he is in bed it is time to watch movies. I know that probably isn't the case but I wanted to pretend that I was saying something intelligent... :) Don't worry, my B list is almost complete.

1. That is so what I was thinking about when I saw the flower...Little Shop of Horrors!

2. So Lakeview Terrace was good? Nick and I saw the preview and thought it would be great. Is that the one where he terrorizes his neighbors?

3. Melatonin. I take it sometimes. Works great. They sell it in 3mg but I have seen it in 5mg. Works great for me.

4. I get Domino mag too and I love it. Love your bottles. Unfortunately the ones I have aren't so pretty! :)

Hope you have a great weekend and hope you two get some sleep!

Awwwww I love hearing little stories like that. Reminds me of when my husband ran into a flower shop one time to get me flowers while I was inside the pharmacy. I LOVEEEE the sneakiness. :)
