Another Weekend Update

Hello lovely bloggers! How was your weekend? I cannot believe it is already Monday, it just completely blows my mind! Our weekend was pretty lazy, which was really nice, but as always (and I say this every Monday) it FLEW by.

Here's what we were up to:

Friday we went out for dinner to Chookdee, one of our Thai restaurants here. Our friend Sarah is out of town and Deaner had to stay behind for one extra week for work before he heads out later this week. Deaner met us out for dinner and as always we had a great time chatting and eating some delicious food. Afterward we went to Murphy's Irish Pub downtown and had a couple of Murphy's Irish Reds, Yum! (I forgot to take pictures.)

Saturday we were slow getting around. Of course, Saturday always turns into our errand day so we hit up the PX, commissary, and the furniture store which had some things I need for my projects I'm working on with my sewing machine. It was a rainy day so we didn't really stay out for long. We came back home, lazed around and watched several movies.

One being Die Hard.
I LOVE the Die Hard movies and this one did not disappoint! Okay, so they are a little far fetched, but come on, this is some serious heart pounding action. I loved the movie. I also LOVE Bruce Willis, so pretty much anything he is in you can bet I'll be watching. Another favorite is Justin Long who was also in this movie, playing a computer hacker. Willis is protecting Long from people that are out to kill him. SOOO good, definitely check it out. There are several funny parts in the movie as well.

We crashed early Saturday (ya, we're cool like that) so that we could get up early and head out for our day trip.

Sunday we (Deaner, Jon and I) headed to a town about an hour away called Marburg. We had bought a book last year with several day trips around Germany, and this town was definitely worth stopping in and seeing. And of course it wouldn't be a normal Steph post with out lots of pictures, so here they are. (I took over 100 so I'll spare you and only post a few!)

And of course we can't forget Jon and his love for tiny doors.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Check back tomorrow for our 200th post giveaway! I think you'll love it. and get this.... Jon picked it out!

Spill it, Sister

Have you guys ever heard of Anne Taintor?

I found Anne Taintor about a year ago while I was shopping at a local boutique. They had several notebooks for sale, my favorite reading "Spill it Sister," with a woman from the 30's, wearing a beautiful dress, hair in pin curls and smoking a cigarette. I just had to have it!

(I found my notebook pic online)

Their stuff is sooo adorable and hilarious!
They sell so many cute items:

Emory Boards

Mini note pads

Pill boxes
Magnets

Note Cases.....
And a lot more! I thought I would share this website with you guys. I think these make perfect little gifts!

I am in LOVE with this stuff! I just ordered several notepads, sticky notes and a magnetic notepad from Ann Taintor yesterday. I can't wait to get them in the mail.

Today is a RAINY ICKY day here in Germany, but it's perfect because I have a couple of projects I'm working on. So instead of being bummed about the weather, I'm actually enjoying it just fine. Jon and I have a pretty uneventful weekend ahead of us.... which I am looking forward to! We have a lot of movies and shows we've been looking forward to watching, so even though the forecast calls for rain all weekend, it's the perfect time to laze around on the couch watching TV!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

1895 Eight Grade Education

Jon's mom sends us a newspaper from their town (McLoud, Oklahoma) every week. It is called "The Weekly Gazette." This week Jon was skimming through the pages and came across an article that read:

"An 8th Grade Education in 1895." It states: "Remember when grandparents and great grandparents stated that they only had an 8th grade education? Well, check this out. Could any of us have passed the 8th grade in 1895?"

Here are some of the questions from the test found at a Genealogical Society and Library in Salina.

Grammar:

1. Name the parts of speech and define those that have no modifications.

2. What are the principal parts of a verb? Give principal parts of lie, play and run.

Arithmetic:

1. Name and define the Fundamental Rules of Arithmetic.

2. A wagon box is 2 ft. deep, 10 feet long, and 3 ft. wide. How many bushels of wheat will it hold?

3. If a load of wheat weighs 3,942 pounds, what is it work at 50cts/bushel, deducting 1,050 pounds for containers?

4. What is the cost of a square farm at $15 per acre, the distance of which is 640 rods?

U.S. History:

1. give the epochs into which U.S. History is divided.

2. Give an account of the discovery of America by Columbus.

3. Relate the causes and results of the Revolutionary War.

4. Name events connected with the following dates: 1607, 1620, 1800, 1849, 1865.

Orthography:

1. What is meant by the following: alphabet, phonetic, orthography, etymology, syllabication.

2. What are the following, and give examples of each: trigraph, subvocals, diphthong, cognate letters, linguals.

3. Mark diacritically and divide into syllables the following, and name the sign that indicates the sound: card, ball, mercy, sir, odd, cell, rise, blood, fare, last.

Geography:

1. What is climate? Upon what does climate depend?

2. Name and locate the principal trade centers of the U.S. Name all of the republics of Europe and give the capital of each.

3. Why is the Atlantic Coast colder than the Pacific in the same latitude?

Aren't these questions incredible???

In the newspaper it states: "Gives the saying "He only had an 8th grade education" a whole new meaning, doesn't it?"

I thought you would all find this article very interesting! I couldn't believe some of these questions. There is no way I would have passed the 8th grade in 1895!

And now onto a giveaway:

Rambling Randomness

1. Last night Jon and I made a little trip to Ikea. I could literally spend hours in this store looking at everything. I could also spend a lot of money in this store, but I've been VERY good! Last night we went in search of fabric. There's actually a really good selection there and I was very impressed. I just bought a couple of practice pieces to play with until I get back into the hang of sewing again.

Here's what I found:
Now I can finally use the new sewing machine Jon got for me ;)
Perfect for a rainy day project!
(We have a lot of rainy days over here.)

2. Last night we also watched Gone Baby Gone.
It was a GREAT movie! I highly recommend it. I love Casey Affleck and Morgan Freeman, both. And any action movie based in Boston you bet I'll be buying.

Plot on IMDB:

"Two Boston area detectives investigate a little girl's kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally."

3. Question:

I'm looking for a new perfume, but I am SOOO picky for some reason. I am not a flowery scent kinda wearin' girl. Do you guys have any suggestions for me???

4. And Sadly, my big furry visitor Sampson left on Sunday! I was sad to see him go and actually got a little teary eyed when he left. BUT what made it better is I've got a new buddy hanging out with me during the days. His name is Elliot: isn't he a doll???

He is also a great dog like Sampson.
Ellie is so sweet, he loves cuddling.
He's either in my lap or at his other favorite spot on top of the couch.
It's so fun having him around!

I'm off to run errands! Hope you all have a happy Wednesday!

P.S. Be looking for our 200th post giveaway in a couple of days!

Hobby Lobby

Oh, how I miss you!

Not only do I miss you today, but I literally miss you on a daily basis. I think of something I would love to have from you all of the time. Your wonderful craft supplies, yarn, fabrics, picture frames, home decor, holiday decorations and endless other items, make me long for you. I am going to spend 1 gazillion dollars on you when I come home in December. I can't wait to see you!

Yours Truly,

Steph

But Seriously, I'm pretty sure we have NOTHING like Hobby Lobby here and it really drives me nuts. I need new yarn and some new fabric. Where O WHERE am I going to find that? There is a shop downtown, but it doesn't even compare to HB. And good luck trying to buy something online, I doubt they'd even ship to an APO.

HB should wise up and open locations in Europe. Hello, they'd make a fortune. Not only on the Europeans but also from the military spouses and civilians living over seas!

Oh and a Target too please, while I am at it ;)

Today I'm going to the good ole doc. I have a major fear of the doctor, but I have a pain on the left side of my neck..... and it really is a pain in the neck (do you see what I did there???)
To say I'm a little nervous, is an understatement. Wish me luck and if you will please say a little prayer for me that it's nothing serious and the doc can make it all better!

Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday!

It will be wonderful tonight, once I get home from the spooky docs. We're going to Ikea to check out the fabric they have and maybe grab a couple of other things. Also, we have Sopranos Season 4 awaiting our return home! Yippie!

Another Weekend Update

Hello lovely bloggers! How was your weekend?? Mine went by in a blur as usual, but it was a pretty eventful weekend to say the least. Here's what we were up to:

Friday we had Sarah and Deaner over. They both were due for a haircut and Sarah needed highlights before she returns to the states this week. After finishing their hair we had a Mexican fiesta! I made homemade salsa, 7 layer dip, make shift Moe's burritos and a 4 layer dessert thingy, that I've mentioned before here. I LOVE Mexican food. It was definitely a treat and I ate my weight in chips and salsa/ 7 layer dip, as I always do. Also S&D brought back some awesome beer from Belgium. This stuff is SO good but toxic, being that it has over 8.0 acohol content! Always a good time with S&D!

Saturday we slept in and slowly got around after noon. We got ready and headed out for a day trip to Heidelberg. We have been wanting to visit Heidelberg for a while and finally made the trip, which was well worth it, (even though we were exhausted from Friday nights little shin dig.)
Here are some pics from our day:

After Heidelberg we drove back home and crashed for the night!

Sunday we awoke to another rainy day in Germany. Surprise! After finding the sewing machine treasure on the side of the street, I've really been wanting to get back into sewing and making fun things. There's something wrong with the machine we found, so instead of taking it somewhere and probably spending more than it's worth getting it fixed, Jon bought me a new sewing machine. Yippie! I can't wait to start playing with it.

We just took it easy Sunday afternoon. I crocheted a blanket for Sarah to take to her baby nephew, "baby Thomas." I love crocheting, especially on icky days, it keeps me busy and gives me something to do.

We also watched a couple of movies, one being Knowing.
It was actually a good movie, the ending was a little strange, but it was definitely interesting.

Today is "get my laundry done" day!

Hope you all have a great week!
