You Might Be a Redneck.........

if you spend weekend nights feeding June bugs to toads......

Yup you read that correctly. In the spring time Oklahoma gets swarms of June bugs. For those of you who are not familiar with June bugs, they are icky, scary, gross, bugs that fly around and are attracted to light. (and usually end up flying into your hair!) All you Okies know what I'm talking about!

Well last summer it rained during the spring for like 18 days straight, which somehow brought on TOADS. and large quantities of them!

One weekend Jon, our best bud Brian, my brother and I were outside enjoying the weather when we realized a swarm of June bugs were flying around our outside porch light.

Then we saw a toad hopping around on our back patio. We put two and two together, realizing that toads love bugs and thought it would be interesting to see if the toad would eat the June bugs. Instead of just eating one of these June bugs, we fed the toad like 10! It was a very entertaining thirty minutes of our lives! Hope you are as entertained as we were.

P.S. DO try this at home, it is so fun.

Here are the videos we captured.

Sorry for the ridiculously bad quality, I captured the video from my camera.

Hope you guys have a wonderful Thursday, it's almost Friday!

I HATE June bugs!! I realize they can't do anything to me but their clingy-ness and psychotic flying into lights just grosses me out!!! Ha, I'm from Nebraska and we had a lot of June bugs, too. I remember when I was little having the blinds open in our family room when it was dark out with the back porch light on and I'd watch the toads jump onto the patio catching the million june bugs that were slamming into the sliding glass doors trying to get to the light, haha.

Yuck! I hate June bugs. It makes me shiver just thinking about them.

That's too funny that you all were catching them and feeding them to the toad and that you captured it on video. :)

Uggh June bugs! Nasty things. We used to leave a bucket of water under the back porch light then feed the ones stupid enough to fly into the bucket to the catfish where we went fishing. I couldn't handle sticking a hook in one so I would just flick them in and the fish would come up and suck them down. My Dad would actually put them on a hook and usually we ended up with fried catfish for dinner.
I really truly hope Germany doesn't have anything like june bugs. Guess we will find out soon.

What did those poor june bugs ever do to you except fly in your hair? You are a meanie!

Are there actually people who may not know what these little critters are??? WHAT? I'm so sheltered.
