I hate SS. They are so killer. Did you know they hurt because your muscle actually pulls away from the bone?! YEOW! Anyways :) You can also pull your toes up and hold during the toe tap thing. I pretty much stopped running because of them, but then I decided I needed to get a good pair of running shoes. I went to a shoe shop that evaluated the way I ran and they fitted me for an amazing pair of running shoes. I haven't had problem since!!<br /><br />Also, when I was in high school I had to go to physical therapy because of shin splints. they gave me some exercises like rolling and unrolling a tea towel with your toes or taking an exercise band, wrapping it around the ball of your foot, and do point and flex exercises. Along with the exercises, icing and a regular schedule of an anti-inflammatory really helps.<br /><br />Hope that helps! Sorry that your dealing with shin splints right now:( You definitely need to let them sit and not push them with running but when you do get back out there, like I said, the biggest thing that has helped me is BIG NUMBER 1: run SLOOOOOOWWWWW...I find that a 12:00 minute mile pace is really a good pace for me. I'm able to comfortably talk and sing my ABC's. This is apparently a rule of thumb you go by:p And number 2: running outdoors on a dirt/sand trail has done wonders for my knees and shins altogether. I was experiencing a lot of this same pain while I was on the treadmill but ever since I got outside, it vanished! I think its also a combination of your joints and muscles getting used to this particular impact as well...Give it time girl...Running and sticking with running is really hard for people, like me, that want to see results right away. It takes time! I have had to find the right mind set in order to keep at this. I just keep telling myself that I have a lifetime to run and I do not want to injure myself so stay with this "build gradually" theme:p Also, It'll be 3 months since my first run on the 27th and I'm seeing wonderful results in my legs and butt and stomach and arms and all over! Its so encourging and motivating! I want to continue so I can see these results even better:p Heal up girl then get right back at it! Please don't get discourgaed because this running this is so rewarding and really builds you up in body and spirit!
